My Great Grandfather was Admiral H. W. Hope who at one time was Captain of HMS Repulse.

A Presentation Silver Cigarette Box, with Garrard & Co. Ltd. hallmarks, wood lined, 110mm X 97mm X 52mm.  Inscribed on top of lid ‘Presented to Brigadier A. P. W. Hope I by the Staff of G(SD) G(TECH) and G(TRC) Headquarters British Army of the Rhine on the occasion of his marriage September 1958’.  

Major-General Adrian Price Webley Hope, CG  He was born on 21 January 1911 ; son of late Admiral H. W. W. Hope, CB, CVO, DSO; married 1958, Mary Elizabeth (died 1990), eldest daughter of Graham Partridge, Cotham Lodge, Newport , Pembrokeshire. He was educated at Winchester College and at the Royal Military College , Sandhurst being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in 1931.
He served as Adjutant of the 1st Battalion between 1937 and 1938; Staff Captain, Palestine, Egypt, 1938–40; DA. & QMG (Plans) Egypt, 1940–41; Instructor, Staff College, 1941; AQMG, Egypt, Sicily, Italy, 1941–44; Colonel Assistant Quartermaster, Plans, India, 1945; Brigadier Quartermaster, S.E. Asia, 1946; Commandant School of Military Administration, 1947–48; Instructor, JSSC, 1948–50; DQMG, GHQ, MELF, 1951–53; Student, IDC, 1954; Brigadier Quartermaster (Ops), War Office, 1955–57; BGS, HQ, BAOR, 1958–59; MGA, GHQ, FARELF, 1959–61; Director of Equipment Policy, War Office, 1961–64; Deputy Master-General of the Ordnance, Ministry of Defence, 1964–66; retired 1966.  He retired to Charlton Horethorne near Sherborne in Dorset and died there on 12 December 1992 .
