My great Uncle, Harry Nunn survived the sinking of Repulse. I really would like to know what happened to him after the sinking. He was captured by the Japanese and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner. Harry died in 1980, can anyone tell me more about him?
Many thanks Jonathan Moffat
has confirmed that Harry fought with the Plymouth Argylls at Singapore and was wounded at
Tyersal Park.
I was at Tyersall Park a couple of days before the
cease fire. I saw Sgt Nunn running down the road from the direction of the Botanical Gardens, he
had an horrendous head wound from mortar shelling. He passed where I was and was restrained further along the road. It goes without saying that his
treatment in the Field Hospital and at Changi was first class and of course he remained with a plate in his head for the rest of his life. I think Sgt Nunn remained at Changi for the rest of his captivity with another badly injured RM Cpl Warn. Seeing him running
screaming down the road has remained vividly in my memory since that day in February 1942. Maurice Edwards Marine Ex Prince of Wales Please contact Andy (webmaster) with any information. |
